JIMI LEE: Press

Blues Revue Magazine

Harmonica ace Jimi Lee  has pulled stints in Chicago, San Francisco, Hawaii, and now Austin, Texas. His new one, WORKIN' TOO HARD (self-released), consits of four self-penned tunes supported by Stevie Ray Vaughan-influced guitarist Mark Mercado and the sturdy rhythm section of Nick Travis and Joel Duhon. Lee's harp work is beyond reproach; he's all over the place, slipping in quick, sharp fills and taking high-fly-ing solos that build to the stars. "It's Alright" is a bluesy funk variation on Junior Wells' "Messin' With the Kid" with a killer guitar solo. The funny "Laundromat" is a srtaightforward shuffle played perfectly, while "Workin' Too Hard" is an everyman's lament given a generic, if energetic, blue funk setting.
